Design and Implementation of Computerized Students Registration System for Allover Central Polytechnic (AKURE CAMPUS) Nigeria

The advent of information technology has brought about a huge effect on the entire education system and also has made the student shift from manual systems to computerised systems. Most of the system that involves manual work has been automated efficiently. The student registration process in Allover Central Polytechnic Akure involves filling registration forms manually, getting them signed by respective lecturers and then getting the documents acknowledged from the concerned head of departments, Deans and Accounts Officers respectively, then the registration forms are submitted to the Administrative office. This process is very laborious and time-consuming. An Online Student Registration System is therefore enveloped to simplify the manual procedure. The methodology involves using PHP, Apache and MySQL while the front-end is designed with PHP, and the back-end is managed with MySQL. The system is more secure and user-friendly.

The internet has finally found its way into the educational sector in a developing country like Nigeria. This is attested to the fact that most Nigerian institutions have now either completely or partially embraced the use student online registration system. This paper takes a look at the various challenges faced by students in carrying out this task. Questionnaires were distributed to students from various faculties to find out their level of satisfaction with the online registration interface and procedure as well the challenges being faced in the course of carrying out online registration. The results indicates that many of the students found it very interesting and easy to use but with attendants challenges of inadequate systems to use, slow speed of server, and lack of privacy of student data among others. The paper also suggests the way forward in order to make this laudable exercise a huge success in the nation tertiary institution.

ABSTRACT This project work Design and Implementation of an E-registration system in tertiary institutions will help enhance the efficiency of data capture and shortens registration processing time for both the students and the school. Its objective is to develop a registration software system that replaces the manual method of registration in Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo. This project work makes use of data collection from the school, materials and journals from various authors. The methodology used is the object oriented analysis and design methodology and the analysis of the existing system shows that it is prone to error. The benefit of the proposed system is that it speeds up the registration process and ensures prompt release of student’s registration number. The implementation of the E-Registration system was carried out using Hypertext Pre-processor (PHP) for the program and the server used is the xampp server. The developed software performed well and produced expected results on completion; in conclusion, this project work if implemented will allow students to register remotely without having to be physically present on campus. There is need for tertiary institutions to computerize their registration system for greater efficiency, neatness, and reliability. This will go a long way to save both the students and the registration officers all the trouble they go through trying to register one form or the other. The design and implementation of computerized students’ admission system is focused at realizing an efficient computation of students’ results. These complaints arise from problems discovered in the manual system which not only include inefficiency, inaccuracy, time consumption and inconvenience but laborious and sluggish. The proposed model is focused with studentship monitoring, storing students' fundamental academic records, tracking students if there is any form of wrongdoing, and checking every certificate issued by Ghana Communication Technology University in the future to ensure that false admittance is greatly decreased. An institution cannot function without information; hence an information system is similar to the nervous system in the human body. In this project, a review of other project works was performed and analyzed, giving the same problems listed in the project. Chapter three is a systematic design on how to execute a web design for the admission portal. ER Diagram and Design model were introduced to explain the details of the admission portal. In Chapter 4, there was an implementation of the designed program. The admission portal was administered in three stages, the first stage which is the first page is the login page. The second stage is the admission requirement and the documents needed to complete the admission form and the third stage is where the admission form is downloaded. After downloading the admission form, applicants are supposed to fill them up and upload them unto the same page, including the documents required for the admission form. After that, there is a submit button to submit all documents. This program was designed using PHP and HTML for the frontend design and DJANGO for the backend design. This program will eradicate the problems that both staff and students face.
